Ghent University, in partnership with the EUREMAP project, is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the EUREMAP Summer School 2025. This intensive one-week summer course promises to take participants on a complete journey through the world of marine bioprospecting, bridging cutting-edge science with the realities of policy and industry.
Scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 3, 2025, the event will be based in the coastal city of Ostend, Belgium, with a special day dedicated to the state-of-the-art facilities at Ghent University. The program is designed for PhD students, early-career researchers, and professionals eager to navigate the entire pipeline that transforms an ocean discovery into a real-world application.
What Awaits You?
This summer school stands out for its hands-on, interdisciplinary approach. Over five days, participants will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with leading specialists and pioneers in the field, exploring the multiple stages of bioprospecting.
The Weekly Journey:
Monday: Kick-off & Introduction – An overview of the marine bioprospecting pipeline with keynote lectures from EUREMAP partners.
Tuesday: Legislation & Ethics – Navigate the complex world of Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS), FAIR data, and international treaties such as the Nagoya Protocol and the High Seas Treaty.
<strong>Wednesday: From Science to Industry – Company visits and expert talks on scaling up, intellectual property (IP), and industry partnerships.
Thursday: From Sample to Bioactive Compound – A full day of hands-on laboratory experience at Ghent University’s state-of-the-art facilities.
Friday: Innovation Lab & Future Perspectives – Apply your knowledge in a collaborative workshop and reflect on the week’s key takeaways.
